90-minute webcast

Friday, October 23, 2026 | 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Eastern

Optional Discussion: 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM ET

“The person who acquires a little ability at becoming an observer, and at controlling some of his emotional reactiveness acquires an ability that is useful for life in all kinds of emotional snarls.” —Murray Bowen, M.D.

ABOUT THIS EVENT

PFCE is presenting  previously recorded Stories by Kathy Wiseman and Lauren Hammer who will be present for live discussion.

In the compelling videos, you will have the opportunity to hear how Bowen family systems theory informed and motivated each individual’s  way through managing

their challenges.

Kathy Wiseman describes how this theory has taught her how to observe herself in her family system by turning her anxious focus on another into a thoughtful focus on herself and her part in the challenging dilemma.

Lauren Hammer describes facing a significant health challenge and how thinking her way through that with Bowen family systems theory saved her life.

Dr. Bowen recognized that by telling the story of his own observations and the efforts he made to engage more thoughtfully in his family, work, and social relationships, the ideas of Bowen family systems theory became “alive and real” to others. Possibilities for managing life’s real-life challenges became a little clearer.

Our 90-minute webcast features guest speakers describing some compelling circumstances that required thought, creativity, and action. Join us in hearing and thinking about some stories of individual efforts to be a little more thoughtful in the process of navigating real life. These efforts, informed by the ideas of Bowen family systems theory, provided more choices for moving through real-life circumstances a little more comfortably. The hope is that these stories will help to make the theory “alive and real” for you too!

Why “Stories from Real Life”

The ideas of Bowen family systems theory as developed by Murray Bowen are the foundation of Princeton Family Center for Education. The past and present Directors of PFCE and every faculty member throughout the organization’s 34-year history have found the ideas of Bowen family systems theory to be an important resource in navigating more thoughtfully the successes and challenges of life in family, work, and social systems. Making these ideas available to a broader community of learners is the primary mission of Princeton Family Center for Education, which proposes that the concepts of Bowen family systems theory can guide thoughtful choices and responsible actions.

Princeton Family Center for Education is committed to bringing the ideas of Bowen family systems theory to interested others in a range of learning opportunities. “Stories from Real Life” is one means of inviting a broad community of learners to become more curious about self in relationship to others in the context of the reality of daily life.
